Research on 'Asteroids' flash game

Asteroids is a 1979 arcade video game and it was one of most popular and influential games from the 'Golden Age of Arcade Games'. The game itself is quite simplistic, you play as a spaceship in an asteroid field with other spaceships flying through, the aim of the game is to shoot as many asteroids and spaceships while avoiding being hit by the asteroids or the counter-fire from the other spaceships. 

The graphics are very simple and only really consist of a series of white vector lines on a black background but it was such an inspirational game that a sequel 'Asteroids Deluxe'  was made. Not much was changed, the 'hyperspace' function which transported you randomly to a different area of the screen was replaced with a shield and the graphics were improved, for example the triangle shaped ship was replaced by something that actually looks like a spaceship but they were still pretty simplistic graphics.

These games were so influential that they spawned two more sequels and many games like Sinistar imitated various aspects of this classic game.
